“Chiropractic care for my child? Why? His back doesn’t bother him.” How often chiropractors have encountered parents who appreciate the importance of regular checkups for their child’s teeth, hearing, eyes, and ears, but draw a blank when it comes to the spinal checkup. In fact, a spinal checkup could be one of the most important checkups your child will ever have.

Your child’s spine is his/her lifeline because running through it is the spinal cord, containing billions of nerve fibers that send messages and energy from the brain to EVERY part of their body, and coordinates EVERY system of the body…including their Immune system. This lifeline is the first thing to develop from the 2 original cells, and is responsible for being the “Highway of communication” between that power that created the body and the matter it created.

Blockage of Nerves in the Spine

If there is blockage of any of the nerves along the spinal cord, any nerve damage at all, then a state of “dis-ease” will develop. Disease (a term that chiropractors and others have long used to describe a state of disharmony in the body) will cause a generalized weakening of your child’s body, lowered resistance to disease, and consequent body malfunction and sickness. Ultimately, what happens is there is a “disconnect” between the power that developed the body from 2 individual cells and the rest of the body.

Blockage of nerves in the spinal column is usually caused by tiny fixations and misalignments of the spinal vertebrae that chiropractic calls vertebral subluxations.

The First Subluxations

How can a child’s spine lose it’s natural alignment? Vertebral subluxations have many possible causes within physical, chemical, and emotional categories of stressors. The very first subluxation can occur during developing stage in-utero or during the birth process itself. The longer that subluxation remains in the body, the more long-term affect it will have on the child’s growing body, and the longer and further away the child grows from their FULL Life potential.

Childhood

Childhood is a very “physical” time. Learning to hold up their head, stand, walk, jumping and running, falls, accidents, and wearing a backpack are all part of a normal childhood, and yet they can cause spinal misalignments and nerve damage — with potentially serious consequences. It would be very wise for all parents to have their children’s spines checked on a regular basis.

Prenatal Chiropractic

Just as hormones are changing throughout pregnancy, so does posture, impacting the amount of stress placed on the nervous system. As the growing baby starts to add more weight to the front of mom’s body, her posture adapts to compensate. Making sure subluxations are removed will allow 100% of Mom’s Life Expression to flow to that growing baby. Reducing the interference to that nervous system housed in the adapting spine allows Mom’s systems and functions to be coordinated properly and as designed.

Webster Technique

The Webster Technique is a specific Chiropractic analysis for women that facilitates balance in the pelvic and abdominal muscles and ligaments. This will reduce constraint to the woman’s uterus, allowing the baby to move freely and get into the best position for birth. Any position of the baby other than vertex (head down) may indicate the presence of sacral subluxation, and therefore may result in intra-uterine constraint. It is strongly recommended that the sacrum be adjusted throughout pregnancy to prevent this constraint. This also allows the baby room to develop without restrictions to its forming cranium, spine, and other structures.

Dr. Lori is certified in this analysis technique and uses it on Moms throughout pregnancy for optimal positioning and biomechanics.

With proper Fetal positioning and nerve flow to the uterus, there is a significant decrease in dystocia (abnormal or difficult labor) and the resulting birth trauma caused by intervention. Proper pelvic positioning allows the pelvis to move as it is designed for the baby’s journey through the birth canal. This not only may reduce labor times, but also reduces the amount of stress put on the baby’s fragile spinal and cranial joints as it travels Earthside.
